At The Swimming pool

Construction:

We went to “Leroy merlin” and we bought all the elements we needed for the experiment at the swimming pool: plates of polystyrene, glue, rope and some fixations to anchor the rope.

First, we had to cut the pieces of polystyrene at the good dimensions and to remove the edges because they were cogged.

Then, we stuck the pieces of polystyrene in pairs and waited for the glue to dry.

Meanwhile, we realized the fixations: we cut pieces of rope at the right length and sewed them.

Finally, we put together the pieces of polystyrene with the fixations.

At the swimming pool:

Once we had determined the quantity of polystyrene that we needed and built the structure of polystyrene, we went to the swimming pool of “la Mulatière” to try to walk on water. We put each pieces of polystyrene on our hands and feet and we anchored them with the ropes. So we first tried to float but it didn’t work because of a lack of stability with our feet: the pieces of polystyrene turned on the water even if we clutched the ropes. We thought about entering the water with our feet first, but the same thing happened. So, to solve our problem of stability, we decided to link the two pieces which were on our feet together and it worked, but because of this tie, we couldn’t walk, we could only float.
