Meeting with a Researcher of the Lyon 1 University
The meeting:
On Monday, January 18th, 2016, we met our “outside contact” as part of our Research Project.
We met a researcher at Lyon 1 University, Ms BARENTIN who is specialized in liquids and interfaces and who welcomed us very nicely.
Indeed, we spent an hour with her, talking about our Research Project and physics knowledge : surface tension, frequency and speed, Newtonian fluids and finally, the Archimedes’ Principle.
It was very interesting and she helped us to organize, improve and finalize our Project. Furthermore, she gave us lots of examples of experiments and applications of these physics knowledges in our everyday life.
As for her job:
Ms Barentin is both a teacher and a researcher. She teaches Physics to students
7 hours a week and she works in labs the rest of the time to study surface tension and complex fluids. Her job is very difficult because she has to write some physics articles and to be aware of the works of researchers all around the world (obviously she must speak English).
Floatable shoes
Moreover, we contacted the sellers of “floatable shoes”, in China but they never replied to our mail.
Thanks:
We would like to thank all the people who spent time with us and helped us to accomplish our Research Project:
First, our teachers: Mr Frelat and Mrs Michaux who were really involved in this project.
Then, Mrs Barentin for her time in spite of her work and the swimming coach because without him, we wouldn’t have been able to perform our experiment at the swimming pool.
